Girls Home & Rescue center

Our Programs

A Safe Home for Healing

Many girls and women in Malawi face challenging circumstances in life, and the Voices Awake Girls Home & Rescue Center aims to address those challenges and provide them with the opportunity to heal and thrive.

Girls and women who stay in the home have experienced the damaging effects of interpersonal violence, abuse, and trauma. The home provides resources for 20 homeless girls and women who are experiencing abuse in their marriages. We provide this home for them based on the sanctuary model, which helps us create a truly collaborative and healing environment that improves efficacy in the treatment of traumatized girls. Voices Awake recognizes the impact that Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) can have on a person’s physical and mental health, and the Rescue Home aims to counteract those effects.

Our house incorporates outdoor spaces with playing fields and landscaped areas that allow the girls to play and develop their social skills.

The home also supports our community in a larger way. We received a grant to create a bore hole, so that the community no longer needs to walk long distances to pump clean water. We also harvest rainwater and use solar energy as a way of creating an eco-friendly environment that brings sustainable change to the nation and beyond.
